Trek Two
Footprint Thirty-Two
The sun was a
hollerin' hot
jalopeno pepper in
the sky ~
Ahhhhhhh, the sky
all that blue
all it
did was fry ~
Fry my brain in my
head and
all the bramble
all around ~
Was thick as
sauce
spilled across
every inch of ground ~
The little pack
upon my back
was
a weary load ~
For all I owned
was in it
upon
this weary road ~
Ohhhhhhh, this road
made
of dust
and dirt ~
Thru the bramble
it done ramble
n' all
it did was hurt ~
It hurt
my eyes
it hurt
my feet ~
It even hurt
my younger
brother
Pete ~
Who in San Diego
miles away
was sipping from
a tall cool glass ~
When for
what seemed
no reason at all he
exclaimed, "Ouch! Alas!"
It was
a
hurtful
road ~
Upon
which
nobody
rode ~
Good for nothin'
except
to
be cussed ~
For not a track
fer days
had been layed in
its dust ~
And where it
led
I
could not trust ~
For up its spine
the weeds
higher n' higher
thrust ~
As
mile after mile
I
trudged along ~
Full of wonder
at how
I up n' done gone
wrong...
Footprint Thirty-Three
She was a
beautiful
Mexican maiden
with her eyes on me ~
She was sooooooo
beautiful beautiful beautiful
n' I was so
old n' poor but free ~
She turned her head
my way
so that I
could see ~
She was sooooooo
bonita bonita bonita
Lord
have mercy on me...
Footprint Thirty-Four
She stepped up
the plank to the deck
of my ship and
knocked upon my door ~
The
beautiful bored n' lonely
of whom
I just spoke before ~
She needed some
matches
was
too poor ~
To buy
them
at
the grocery store ~
I
opened
the
door ~
Her beautiful face
broke apart
in terror
and furthermore ~
She leaped off the deck
of this fine old tug
and visited
me nevermore!
My God
oh why
oh why
wha' for?
I turned around
peered into the mirror
what do ye
suppose I saw?
My face had become
a noseless skull
my hand
a bone-eee claw!!!
Footprint Thirty-Five
And I
stood in this
strange
purple haze ~
I
in so
strange
a skeleton phaze ~
I
had
seen
better days ~
I
had
seen
better days...
